Valdai Club Presents Report about U.S., Russia and EU in the Middle East

On May 19, 2016, at 11.00, The Valdai Discussion Club will hold a presentation of its new report "Crucial Players or Insufficient Powers? The USA, Russia and the EU in the Middle East".

Policy of the world centers of power in the Middle East is rapidly changing. If before the United States was the main external player in the Middle East , today we see a more intensive involvement of Russia and the EU. Russia loudly declared its presence by the operation of Military Space Forces and support of the Syrian government army. The European Union became hostage by the unprecedented flow of refugees, it experienced a series of bloody terrorist attacks and stood in front of the necessity of an independent search for effective levers of influence on the situation in the region. Today, Russia, the EU and the US form the asymmetric triangle with a disproportional ratio of available resources, efforts and benefits. Who are the influential players which will be able to achieve their goals with minimal losses, and whether the coordination is possible of their actions, how they will line up with key regional centers of power - all of these questions remain open. Answers will lead to an understanding of who can really influence the situation in the region and be the guarantor of changes for the better. Options of answers are in a new report of the Valdai Discussion Club.
