Libyan Settlement: Russian Diplomacy 2.0. Panel Discussion
Valdai Discussion Club Conference Hall (Bolshaya Tatarskaya 42, Moscow, Russia)

On December 13, at 11:00, the Valdai Club will hold a panel discussion titled “Libyan Settlement: Russian Diplomacy 2.0” with the participation of Libyan Foreign Minister Mohamed Taher Siala and head of the Russian contact group on the intra-Libyan settlement Lev Dengov.

The past year has been marked by active engagement of Russian diplomacy in the processes of the intra-Libyan settlement. Russia maintains contacts with all parties to the conflict, arranges visits of their representatives to Moscow and takes a fundamentally equidistant position, which allows it to act as a neutral intermediary. Russia took a direct part in the reconciliation of the parties to the conflict and assisted in the development of an agreement between Tripoli and the tribes of the south of Libya. In addition, Russia’s plans to organize humanitarian assistance to the most vulnerable south of the country became known.

What is Russia doing on Libya? What are the prospects for reconciliation of the parties to the conflict? Can Russia directly assist the parties to the conflict in the issue of reconciliation, and what is needed for this? The discussion participants will answer these and other questions.

Valdai Club Programme Director Oleg Barabanov will moderate the discussion.

After the panel discussion, a press briefing will be organized by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Libya and the head of the Russian contact group Lev Dengov.

Working languages: English, Russian.
