Expert Discussion on Iran’s Regional Policy
Valdai Discussion Club Conference Hall, Bolshaya Tatarskaya 42, Moscow, Russia

On July 13, at 10:00, the Valdai Discussion Club will host an expert discussion on Iran’s regional policy, featuring Ali Akbar Velayati, senior adviser to the Supreme Leader of Iran Ali Khamenei on international affairs.

Iran is an important regional player in the Middle East. Tehran continues to work on restoring stability in Syria and combatting terrorism, while maintaining its presence in the country.

The recent withdrawal of the United States from the Iran nuclear deal aggravated Tehran’s relations with both the United States and its regional neighbours. Iran has promised to block the Strait of Hormuz, a key water route, which ensures oil supplies from the Gulf States, if Washington takes measures aimed at Iranian oil exports.

What is Iran’s current position in the Middle East? How dangerous is its confrontation with Israel? What can Iran’s moves be if the United States introduces new sanctions? These and many other issues will be addressed by the discussion participants.
