Hasan Selim Özertem

Dr. Hasan Selim Özertem is an Ankara-based political analyst. He received his B.S. in Economics from Middle East Technical University, where he also completed his M.A. in Eurasian Studies with his thesis entitled “Russian Soft Power in the Post Soviet Space”. He earned his Ph.D. in political science from Bilkent University with his thesis entitled “Political Economy of Energy Sector Restructuring in the Post-Soviet Space: Russia and Azerbaijan in Comparative Perspective”. He worked for Ankara-based think-tank, the International Strategic Research Organization (USAK), as a researcher between 2006 and 2016. He worked on several projects with the United Nations, the Turkish Ministry of Interior, the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and BP. He was a visiting scholar at the Carnegie Moscow Center from April to July 2013 Hasan Selim Özertem has contributed to national newspapers and journals such as Hurriyet Daily News, Radikal, Sabah, and Star with his comments and analysis and has appeared on several Turkish and international media platforms such as CNN International, BBC, Al-Jazeera, New York Times, Washington Post, Financial Times, NTV, TRT, and CNN TURK. He is a contributor to the German Marshall Fund’s “On Turkey” Series. His research interests are security, political economy, energy, elite politics, Eurasia, Russia, and Turkey.
