On February 19 at 11:00 Moscow Time (GMT+3), the Valdai Club will present its new report, titled “Russia and Its Neighbours: Mutual Responsibility and Co-Development.”
The military-political conflict between Russia and the West with Ukraine at its centre, plays a significant role in the evolution of Russia’s relations with its neighbours. Its impact is noticeable both in the internal developments of all participants and in the international context, where ties between Russia and the West are transforming while the Russian-Chinese partnership is strengthening, and the world majority is emerging as an independent international phenomenon. All these changes necessitate a new approach to Russian policy toward the former Soviet Union.
In 2024–25, the Valdai Discussion Club conducted a series of situational analyses and discussions with leading Russian experts on the post-Soviet space. Based on the collected material and a series of individual studies, the report “Russia and Its Neighbours: Mutual Responsibility and Co-Development” was prepared.
How is the conflict over Ukraine affecting Russia’s neighbours? What is the dynamic of Russia’s presence in the former Soviet Union? What are the priorities, opportunities, and limitations of Russia’s policy? What could be Russia’s foreign policy strategy in the current context? The author of the report and the participants in the Valdai Club’s discussion will attempt to answer these and other questions.
