Valdai Club to Hold Expert Dialogue ‘New World—Rules of Survival: Limits of Power and Space for Cooperation’
Corinthia Hotel (57 Nevsky Prospekt, St. Petersburg)
Programme

On June 2, St. Petersburg will host a Valdai Club expert dialogue titled “New World—Rules of Survival: Limits of Power and Space for Cooperation.” The event, to be held at the Corinthia Hotel (57 Nevsky Prospekt, St. Petersburg), will bring together experts from Bangladesh, Egypt, India, Russia, and Serbia.

This expert dialogue is part of a broader Valdai Club programme running from May 31 to June 4 in St. Petersburg, aimed at fostering discussion on the challenges of intensifying interstate rivalry and the search for opportunities for cooperation in a multipolar world. The programme also includes the Club’s Third Youth Conference (May 31 – June 1) and the traditional Valdai session at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF 2026, June 4).

Participants in the Valdai Expert Dialogue will seek to identify areas and forms of cooperation that, even amid intense competition, respect national interests and strengthen sovereignty.

Today, competition for resources is escalating dramatically—from natural resources and rare earth metals to high technologies (including AI), human capital, and management practices. At the same time, global instability is deepening: restraining frameworks are eroding, multilateral institutions are losing influence, the global balance of power is shifting, uncertainty is growing, and armed conflicts are playing an ever-larger role.

Every state strives to remain resilient in the face of global upheavals, prevent internal crises, secure its own development, and thereby contribute to a new international equilibrium. Having weathered numerous upheavals over the past 40 years, Russia is positioned to offer approaches and solutions relevant to all.

The one-day expert dialogue will feature an opening session followed by three thematic sessions. During the sessions, experts will discuss the following topics:

  • National Resilience in the Midst of Global Turbulence: States Confronting Worldwide Stressors;

  • Sovereignty in an Interconnected World: Between Openness and Protectionism;

  • Global Redistribution: Competition for Human Capital and Advanced Technologies.

All events of the expert dialogue will be held in a media-friendly format. The events begin at 10:50.

The international guests of the expert dialogue include: Aleksandar Vulin, Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of Serbia (2024 – 2025) (Serbia); Syed Munir Khasru, Founding Director of the Institute for Policy, Advocacy, and Governance (IPAG) (Bangladesh); Osama Elgohary, Chairman of the Information and Decision Support Center under the Egyptian Cabinet and Assistant to the Prime Minister of Egypt (Egypt); Sujit Kumar, Member of Parliament (India), Bharatiya Janata Party, Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha (Odisha), and others.

The Russian side will be represented by Vyacheslav Rybakov, writer and publicist, chief researcher at the Institute of Oriental Manuscripts of the Russian Academy of Sciences; Anastasia Likhacheva, Dean of the Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs at the National Research University Higher School of Economics; Victor Jeifets, professor at the Russian Academy of Sciences, director of the Center for Ibero-American Studies and professor at the Department of Theory and History of International Relations at St. Petersburg State University; Andrey Bystritskiy, Chairman of the Board of the Foundation for Development and Support of the Valdai Discussion Club; Fyodor Lukyanov, Director of Research at the Foundation for Development and Support of the Valdai Discussion Club, and others.
