On January 28 at 12:00 Moscow Time (GMT+3), the Valdai Club will host an expert discussion titled “The International Situation Around Iran: Trends and Risks.”
The domestic political situation in Iran is provoking conflicting reactions in the international community. The United States is openly calling for regime change, threatening military strikes, and increasing economic pressure on Iranian trading partners. Russia and China have consistently opposed interference in Iran’s internal affairs.
Iran’s situation is increasing uncertainty in the global oil market, pushing prices higher. At the same time, the country is struggling to find political compromises. For nearly 47 years, the Islamic Republic has resisted sanctions pressure and attempts at international isolation.
Will the United States be able to exploit Iran's domestic political problems? What escalation scenarios are possible? What is the resilience level of the Iranian political system? How will current events impact global markets? The participants in the discussion will attempt to answer these and other questions.
