Wolfgang Schuessel: Fight Against International Terrorism Must Be Intensified

After the events of Paris and the Sinai Peninsula the fight against international terrorism must be intensified and carried on by a wide coalition of states.

People all over Europe and around the globe are mourning for more than 130 human beings brutally killed by Islamic terrorists in Paris last Friday. This carnage occurred only two weeks after the terrible terrorist act against a Russian airliner flying over the Sinai Peninsula which killed all 224 people on board. Since 11 September 2001 we should know that international terrorism is a new type of warfare against the human civilization. People all over the world might fall victim.

Therefore, in a spirit of solidarity the international community must stand up against this deadly threat. After the events of Paris and the Sinai Peninsula the fight against international terrorism must be intensified and carried on by a wide coalition of states, including the USA, the EU, Russia, and China. This new cooperative effort will remind Russia and the West that their common interests are far more important than their present discords. For the EU and Russia cooperation in combatting international terrorism can be a first step towards a relaunch of a comprehensive and trustful partnership.
