According to Hans-Friedrich von Ploetz, Permanent representative of Germany at the NATO Council (1989-93) Ambassador to the UK (1999-2002) and to Russia (2002-2005), Russia sees itself as a big global power, and the West has to take it into consideration. Russia defines its role itself. At the same time Russia is a very important European power. The EU, other European organizations are interested in better cooperation with Moscow. And a human factor can play here important role. We are at the stage when we have to rethink where we have to go. The motto for future should be cooperation, re-establishing of the mutual trust before big challenges we face. Meetings like the Valdai Club conference could be here very useful.
