Values in the Modern World. What Is Their Balance for Genuine Equality? Sixth Session of the 19th Annual Meeting of the Valdai Discussion Club

How can we ensure a fair balance in the new world – not only political and economic, but also cultural and ideological? Participants of the sixth session of the 19th Annual Meeting of the Valdai Discussion Club tried to answer this question.

The modern political map of the world was formed in the second half of the twentieth century, decolonization being the single most important event that shaped it. However, although many decades have passed since the collapse of the colonial empires, the balance of interests between the former colonialists and those who were freed from their oppression has not been established. The West still dominates, albeit by other means. But genuine equality in terms of mutual respect and mutual opportunities has not yet arrived. How can we ensure a fair balance in the new world – not only political and economic, but also cultural and ideological?

The meeting was attended by 111 experts, politicians, diplomats and economists from 41 countries, including Afghanistan, Brazil, China, Egypt, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Iran, Kazakhstan, Russia, South Africa, Turkey, the United States, Uzbekistan, and others. Traditionally, more than half of the participants in the Valdai Club meeting are representatives of foreign countries, and this year is no exception.
