Paul J. Saunders, Executive Director of the Center for the National Interest and a member of the Center’s Board of Directors, is reasoning about US-Russian cooperation on Syria and Iran. To his mind, the recent diplomatic achievements are isolated and will not entail the improvement of bilateral relations. The main obstacle to this is the critique of foreign policy of US President Barack Obama's administration by the Republicans, which makes impossible the presentation of diplomatic transactions as a success. As a result, the US do not hasten to recognize the constructive engagement with Russia on a wide range of issues.
