The traditional mediators like the UN or the EU in the Middle East are in crisis, but we observe the rise of successful local mediators, says Nir Rosen, Syria and Iraq advisor at the Humanitarian Dialogue Center. Among the examples, he mentions the mediation of Saudi Arabia and the UAE in Yemen, or Russia, Turkey, and Iran in Syria.
