On March 17 at 11:00 the Valdai Discussion Club hosted an expert discussion: “The impact of new global threats in the healthcare field on international politics and economics”.
The global (self) isolation of China, a temporary ban on Europeans entering the United States, and even a 50% drop in global economic growth are the consequences of the coronavirus outbreak in early 2020, which has been recognised by the World Health Organization as an international pandemic.
Against the background of the introduction by Israel of quarantine for all foreigners entering the country, as well as other unprecedented measures taken by individual states like Italy to prevent the spread of infection, the international community faces one main challenge - to be united in solving the common problem or to follow a process of separation and isolation from each other, which will bring an end to the free movement of people, goods and services.
How do global healthcare threats like the novel viruses affect international politics and economics? What role does the international community play in their resolution? What consultations are being held at the intergovernmental level, and why is this becoming more political? What is the role of medical diplomacy? The participants in the meeting will answer these and other questions.
