Despite that during the Cold War and in the 1990s, Turkey was a loyal NATO partner, now it has to solve its security problems on its own and make new alliances, says Hasan Basri Yalçın, Director of Strategic Studies, SETA Foundation for Political, Economic and Social Research. “If you are talking about what role Turkey can play in the Greater Asia, Middle East comes first. Without having some sustainable solution for problems like Syria, it is impossible to deal with broader issues,” he adds.
