The negative impact of the novel coronavirus is temporary and controllable, and will not lead to catastrophic consequences because the Chinese government is determined to effectively control the spread of the epidemic.

The Sino-Russian relations should both keep pace with the times, responding to new changes in international configuration, and provide common solutions to peace deficit, development deficit, governance deficit faced by all mankind, Valdai Club expert Wan Qingsong believes.

A crucial component of China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership, regional cooperation is a focal point for both countries and receives the necessary support both at the top level and from the local authorities. Unfortunately, trade and economic cooperation with Russia has no obvious strategic advantages and is in an inferior position. Neither China, nor Russia has taken steps to create favorable conditions for bilateral and regional trade and economic cooperation.

The extent and potential for confrontation between the major powers is significantly lower in Central Asia than in the Asia-Pacific region (APR), Eastern Europe or the Middle East. The potential for cooperation is greater because Russia, China, and especially the United States have no vital need to dominate in the region.

On March 25–26, 2016, over 50 well-known experts and scholars from both China and Russia gathered at East Normal University at a conference entitled “Cooperation between China and Russia: The Process and Prospects” to discuss Sino-Russian relations in challenging times. During the conference, both Chinese and Russian scholars highlighted a number of issues currently facing both countries and put forward quite a few constructive comments and suggestions.
