On April 24 at 10:30 a.m. the Valdai Club will host an expert discussion on strategic stability.

Amid the acute current geopolitical crisis, which is becoming almost global in nature, the notion of strategic stability has taken on special importance. The Ukraine conflict could escalate into a direct military clash between Russia and the NATO countries. For the first time since the Cuban Missile Crisis, problems of strategic stability in Russian-American relations have become quite real.

The role of regional challenges to strategic stability, however, has recently been increasing. The escalation of the conflict in the Middle East and Iran’s retaliatory strike on Israel raise the question of the use of nuclear weapons in this region.

Russia is especially interested in the views of regional actors regarding challenges to strategic stability. The Valdai Club hosts the first Russian-Pakistani discussion on nuclear issues at the expert level. Pakistan, as a new nuclear power and Russia's partner in the SCO, has its own vision and expert assessments of strategic stability.
