Japan’s key strategic point is promoting the concept of “free and open Indo-Pacific”, Yuichi Hosoya, Professor of International Politics, Keio University, suggests, and the other countries accept it.  In order to do that, Japan needs both the US and China, so it tries to mitigate the conflict between these two major powers. “China and Japan are going to play a leading role in creating a stable and more prosperous region”, he says.
