On November 22 at 4:00 pm Moscow Time (GMT+3), the Valdai Club hosted an expert discussion dedicated to the role of the UN in the changing world order.

The UN Charter was signed on June 26, 1945 in San Francisco. Over the past 78 years, the world has changed a lot. The UN has been slow to respond to modern challenges, such as the pandemic and climate change. The conflict in the Middle East and Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine have also revealed shortcomings in the decision-making mechanism within the UN General Assembly. The organisation’s crisis is compounded by the fact that Western countries can still use their dominance of the UN Secretariat and UN-affiliated organisations to advance their position.
