Valdai Club to Discuss Strategic Stability
Valdai Club Conference Hall, Tsvetnoy Boulevard 16/1, Moscow, Russia
List of speakers

On April 24 at 10:30 Moscow Time (GMT+3) the Valdai Club will host an expert discussion on strategic stability.

Amid the current geopolitical crisis, which has become increasingly global in nature, the concept of strategic stability has taken on special importance. The conflict in Ukraine could escalate into a direct military confrontation between Russia and NATO countries, raising concerns about the future of strategic stability in Russian-American relations. The issue of strategic stability is becoming more relevant due to recent regional challenges. The escalation of the conflict in the Middle East and Iran’s retaliatory action against Israel raise questions about the potential use of nuclear weapons in this region.

Russia is particularly interested in the views of regional actors on these issues. The Valdai Club organises the first Russian-Pakistan discussion on nuclear issues at the expert level. As a new nuclear power and partner of Russia in the SCO, Pakistan has its own perspective and expert assessment of strategic stability. How do these concepts differ from the traditional understanding of strategic stability, which is based on the Russian-American power balance? What is the current state of strategic stability between Russia and NATO, and how can nuclear powers collaborate to ensure strategic stability in today's world? These and other questions will be addressed by participants in the discussion.
