Richard Burt: The US Lacks a Eurasian Strategy. Part I
16.12.2015
In his interview Amb. Richard Burt discusses both big problems of US grand strategy and relations with other great powers, and current trends in US-Russia relations, including in Syria. He talks about what the US could and could not accomplish in Syria, emphasizing the limits of what military force can accomplish in today global environment, and describes the current state of US-Russia relations and prospects for their development. Then he discusses US strategy towards non-Western centers of power, in particular Russia and China, and focuses on whether the US is rejecting their engagement or not. Finally, he claims that the US lacks an integral Eurasian strategy and does not consider the current Russian-Chinese partnership as something sustainable in the longer-term future and as creation of consolidated Eurasia.
