An Expert Discussion on the Results of the G20 Summit, Featuring Svetlana Lukash, Sergei Storchak and Alexander Pankin

On July 3, the Valdai Discussion Club hosted an expert panel discussion on the results of the G20 summit; our guests will include Russia’s G20 Sherpa Svetlana Lukash, Deputy Finance Minister Sergei Storchak, and Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Pankin.

On June 29, the G-20 summit will conclude in Osaka, Japan. Today, a large number of bilateral and multilateral meetings have been held on the margins of the summit, including one between Russian President Vladimir Putin, US President Donald Trump and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

One of the major issues of the current G20 summit was the reform of the international financial architecture and the World Trade Organisation (WTO), security issues and trade restrictions on China and other countries.

In addition, the participants of the Osaka summit discussed new digital economy rules, including the 5.0 concept. It is not the first year when the G20 summit has touched upon digitalisation issues, as well as the benefits for the global economy, and new possible risks and threats to information security.

On November 21-22, 2020, the next (15th) G20 Summit will be held for the first time in an Arab state: Saudi Arabia. We already know that the future G-20 will concentrate on the most important financial, economic and social topics, energy issues, the digital economy, and trade confrontation, which will remain the centre of attention of the countries’ leaders.

What are the highlights of the current G20 agenda? Will the model of world economy development be fairer than now? After the Osaka summit is finished, will the countries implement its major economic decisions? What is the significance of this G20 meeting for the global economy and for Russia? Will the reform of the WTO be successful? Will the summit produce real results for the development of the digital economy? Is it possible to stop the trade war between the USA and China? These and other issues addressed by the participants of the discussion.
