Digital Future of Eurasia. An Expert Discussion

On May 25, the Valdai Club held an online discussion, titled “The Digital Future of Eurasia: Priorities for Eurasian Integration until 2025”.

On May 21, a meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council took place. One of the key topics was the implementation of the digital unification agenda. The introduction of digital technologies in industry, agriculture and customs regulation is essential for the EAEU. According to forecasts, the effect of the implementation of the digital agenda can ensure the growth of the union’s GDP by more than 1% annually. However, not all the states of the association are able to equally ensure the dynamic development of digital technologies; different speeds of digitalisation are observed. In addition, the countries are forced to deal with the consequences of the pandemic and invest large-scale resources in the social sphere.

Has the pandemic become an obstacle to the implementation of the EAEU digital agenda? What can the EAEU do to equalise the pace of digitalisation? What will the digital future of Eurasia be like? The participants in the online discussion answered these and other questions.

Speakers:

  • Mikhail Mamonov, Deputy Minister of Digital Development of the Russian Federation (2018 −2020);

  • Alexey Bezborodov, General Director of Infranews Research Agency;

  • Maxim Gall, Deputy Head of the Project Office for the Implementation of the “Digital Economy of the Russian Federation” Program, Analytical Center for the Government of the Russian Federation;

  • Mirlan Omuraliyev, Assistant to the Chairman of the EEC Board.
