Kazakhstan is one of Russia’s priority trading partners. The main area of economic cooperation between the two countries is the fuel and energy sector: the transit of Kazakh oil to foreign markets passes through Russia. The other areas include power, investment, and the peaceful use of nuclear energy. Although in 2014-2016, mutual trade between the two countries was in decline, after 2017, it began growing again.
