On March 27 at 16:00 Moscow Time (GMT+3), the Valdai Discussion Club Conference Hall in Moscow will host a discussion titled “The Crisis of Growth in NATO or the End of Atlantic Unity?”

For decades, NATO has stood as a symbol of Western unity. Founded to bolster the influence of Western European elites and sustain US presence in Europe after World War II, the North Atlantic Alliance has long served as a vehicle for advancing their shared interests.

In the post-Cold War era, NATO’s eastward expansion emerged as a key factor in destabilizing Europe’s international order. Today, however, the alliance’s influence is waning – not only globally, amid the rise of multipolarity and the democratization of world politics, but also internally, as tensions between the US and European member states continue to grow.

How profound will the cracks in transatlantic unity become as US policy evolves? What are the prospects for greater EU independence and a diminished US role among European allies? And what strategy might Russia adopt in response to the rapidly shifting dynamics within NATO? These questions and more will be explored by the participants of the discussion.
