On July 23, at 10:30 Moscow time (GMT+3), an online discussion titled “Strategic Economic Interaction Between China and Russia in the Post-Pandemic Era” will take place within the framework of cooperation between the Valdai Discussion Club and the Center for Sino-Russian Strategic Cooperation of the CITIC Foundation for the Study of Reforms and Development in China.
The global economy faces an unprecedented crisis. The role of emerging markets in overcoming the consequences of the global economic downturn becomes increasingly prominent. Amid these conditions, the issues of interaction between the largest emerging markets, such as Russia and China, are very important. Moreover, the Chinese economy was the first in the world to resume growth after the crisis caused by the pandemic. Moscow and Beijing can take part in the development of anti-crisis measures, as well as in shaping a new development agenda for the world economy after the crisis. This agenda includes not only issues of bilateral and regional cooperation, but also broader issues related to the new system of global governance.
What is the potential for interaction between Chinese and Russian development institutions in overcoming the crisis and in reconstructive dynamics after the crisis? What are the possible areas of cooperation between Russia and China within the framework of SCO and BRICS? How promising is the BRICS+ interaction mechanism? Are there opportunities to strengthen investment cooperation between Russia and China in the context of the EAEU and China’s Belt and Road initiative? These and other issues will be discussed by Russian and Chinese experts.
Andrey Bystritskiy, Chairman of the Board of the Foundation for Development and Support of the Valdai Discussion Club, will address the participants with opening remarks.
