List of speakers

On June 25, 2019, at 10:00, the Valdai Discussion Club will host an expert discussion on the eve of the G20 summit in Osaka, with the participation of Maxim Oreshkin, Minister of Economic Development of the Russian Federation.

On June 28-29, Japan will host the G20 summit for the first time. In addition to the main programme of the summit, a large number of bilateral and multilateral meetings will be held, including talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

The summit will take place in the context of the trade war between the United States and China. US President Donald Trump has already announced that after the summit he is ready to introduce new trade restrictions against Beijing. This topic will not be ignored by the leaders of 20 largest economies, since the US-Chinese trade war has long-term negative consequences for the whole world.

The general agenda of the summit promises to be rich: the Japanese side has proposed discussing a possible reform of the WTO. It is worth recalling that Vladimir Putin in his speech at the plenary session of SPIEF-2019 called for adapting the world trade system to modern realities and increasing the efficiency of the WTO.

In addition, participants in the Osaka summit plan to discuss new rules for the digital economy. Environment and climate change will also occupy an important place in the discussions.

What important economic decisions will countries make at the end of the Osaka summit? How can Russia minimise the harmful effects of the economic contradictions between China and the United States? What significance will the current G20 meeting have for the global economy and for Russia in particular? What ideas and suggestions does the Russian delegation bring to the summit? The discussion participants will address these and other issues.
