Foundation for Development and Support of the Valdai Discussion Club
The Valdai Club Foundation was established in 2011 with a mission to support the club’s further development, work to expand contacts between Russian and foreign experts, support young researchers’ projects, and organize and finance new formats for the club’s work.
The Foundation is responsible for getting interested organizations and individuals involved in the work of the Club and the Foundation, information and public relations campaigns, publishing, the development and implementation of educational programs and projects, awarding research and education grants and supporting and popularizing the club’s work.
The founding members of the Foundation are: Russian News & Information Agency RIA Novosti; Council on Foreign and Defense Policy; English-language newspaper The Moscow News; Center for Global Political and Economic Studies.
The Foundation is governed by the Valdai Foundation Board, while its day-to-day operations are managed by the Executive Director, Pavel Andreev. The Foundation Board decides which programs and projects to implement and allocates funding accordingly, based on recommendations by leading foreign members of the club who sit on its Advisory Board. The use of the foundation’s money is supervised by the Board of Trustees that comprises prominent Russian and international academic and public figures.
The Valdai Club Advisory Board is responsible for planning the themes of the club’s work and approving new members. The Board includes the most influential members who have been in the club since its inception and attended most of its annual conferences. The Board includes two permanent members, Svetlana Mironyuk, Editor-in-Chief of RIA Novosti, and Sergei Karaganov, Chairman of the Presidium of the Council on Foreign and Defense Policy, as well as five non-permanent members elected for a two-year term, representing Europe, North America and Asia.
