According to Wu Bingbing, Senior Research Fellow at the Institute for International and Strategic Studies, Peking University, the situation in Syria, Iraq and Yemen, together with other dimensions, makes strategic competition between Iran and Saudi Arabia in the Middle East much more complex than is commonly understood.
He noted that China has strived to balance its relations with Iran and Saudi Arabia and seeks to reduce tensions in the region and find a peaceful solution to the conflicts. Wu added that the One Belt, One Road initiative seeks to be inclusive and bring more countries into cooperation.
