Valdai Club Middle East Conference. Session 7. Iran: An Independent Course?


On February 19-20, 2018, the Valdai Discussion Club in partnership with the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences held a conference, titled “Russia in the Middle East: Playing on All Fields.” The conference took place in the format of an expert dialogue with the participation of well-known politicians, diplomats, experts and public figures from more than 30 countries.

The participants will discuss the following issues:

  • What are Iran’s primary interests in the region at the moment and what means is it prepared to use to secure them?

  • Which ‘red lines’ should neither Iran nor its opponents cross?

  • What confidence-building measures can be proposed to relieve the tension in Iran’s relations with other Middle Eastern states?
