Valdai Club Middle East Conference. Session 4. Middle Eastern Settlement: An Exploded Quiet?

On February 19-20, 2018, the Valdai Discussion Club in partnership with the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences held a conference, titled “Russia in the Middle East: Playing on All Fields.” The conference took place in the format of an expert dialogue with the participation of well-known politicians, diplomats, experts and public figures from more than 30 countries.

Working languages: Russian, English, Arabic.

The participants will discuss the following issues:

  • Could the increased tensions lead to a resumption of talks?

  • What measures are available to the international mediators and the leading regional powers (Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan)?

  • Is it reasonable to begin talks with a discussion of Jerusalem’s status, and could an agreement on Jerusalem be reached without it being strictly linked to the resolution of other major issues in the conflict?
