Raúl Delgado Wise on Migration, Globalization and the New Rise of Populism

Raúl Delgado Wise, Director of the Doctoral Program in Development Studies at the University of Zacatecas (Mexico) and President of the International Migration and Development Network, talks about migration and the impact that globalization has had on global patterns of development.

According to Delgado Wise, the global movement of capital makes migration a much more complex matter, as it has begun to alienate people based on nationality, and not simply class, leading to the new wave of populism across the developed countries. He noted that the new situation has led to the creation of people who are displaced economically, rather than by wars and civil conflict.
