Grigory Marchenko on the Role of Kazakhstan in Eurasian integration
01.02.2017
Grigory Marchenko, First Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan (2004) and Chairman of the National Bank of the Republic of Kazakhstan (1999-2004, 2009-2013), speaks about the economic strategy of Kazakhstan and its participation in the Eurasian integration. According to Marchenko, the integration process should be multilateral, and no actor should be able to dominate over others.
Marchenko also discussed the development of transport infrastructure in Eurasia and the legacy of closed borders as a result of the decades-long confrontation between the USSR and the PRC. He noted that for Kazakhstan it is a priority to diversify transport routes, oil and gas pipelines to ensure equality in relations with its neighbors.
