The fourth and final day of the XVI 16th Annual Meeting of the Valdai Discussion Club in Sochi began with a session on changing trends and the search for new growth points in Asia, and ended with a plenary session with the presidents of Russia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and the Philippines, as well as the King of Jordan.
At the ninth session, titled “Breaking New Ground in the World Economy: Asia as a Driver of Growth or Space for Confrontation?”, one of the main topics of discussion was the trade war between the USA and China and the likelihood of its transition to the confrontation of economic and technological platforms. Experts expressed the view that climate protectionism could become a new round in this conflict.
At the the plenary session for the first time five current heads of state attended: Russian President Vladimir Putin, King of Jordan Abdullah II, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev , President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokaev, President of the Republic of the Philippines Rodrigo Duterte.
