The year 2015 opened a new stage in the development of the international system. Despite the continuing erosion of the old institutions, for the first time in a long while we can see signs of emergence of something new amid the disintegration of the old.

The new emerging world rejects unification, generally accepted views and universal values. Competition has spread to the level of values, but it’s not a competition for the best set of values, but rather for the co-existence of a number of diverse models.

The formation of a new stable peace in the world requires an intellectual breakthrough – it has to be invented. The final report of the Valdai Club is devoted to the opportunities of achieving a new world balance of forces that will be more or less stable – at least in the mid-term perspective. There are opportunities in this regard, but this task is not easy.
