Valdai Discussion Club Conference Hall (Bolshaya Tatarskaya 42, Moscow, Russia)
List of speakers

On April 12 at 11:00, the Valdai Discussion Club will hold an expert discussion on the topic “World Trade Wars: What Are We to Expect?”

The Trump administration has officially declared a trade war on China. Beijing responded with countermeasures to the new duties and limitation of Chinese investments in the US companies.

In addition, the US President announced his decision to impose tariffs on steel and aluminium imports to the country. These restrictions could affect European states as well as China.

What does this mean in terms of the world economy? Are we entering a new era of protectionism, or is it possible to develop some new approaches to the free market? Does the conflict have any historical parallels? How could the WTO react? These and other issues are to be addressed by the discussion participants.

Moderator:

  • Ivan Timifeev, Programme Director of the Valdai Discussion Club
Speakers:

  • Daria Davydova, Head of the WTO Participation Department, Department for Trade Negotiations of the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation
