On June 13, 2018, at 14:00 the Valdai Discussion Club held an expert discussion on the results of the summit in Singapore between the US President Donald Trump and the DPRK leader Kim Jong-un.
Despite the fact that the historic meeting between the US and the DPRK leaders does not promise a breakthrough in solving the Korean nuclear problem, and the US president has already said that he did not intend to sign any agreements, this bilateral summit could be a signal that both parties are ready to discuss the accumulated disagreements. The summit between states without diplomatic relations promises to be an unprecedented event. However, the impulsiveness of the current US administration and the specifics of the North Korean leader's policy can have a significant impact on the summit results.
Will the parties reach a compromise and normalize the dialogue? Will they agree to mutual concessions? The results of the summit will be discussed by the participants in the expert discussion.
