List of speakers

On July 13, 2017, at 11:00, the Rambler&Co lectorium will host an expert discussion titled “Security and Media as Indicators Of Future States' Competitiveness,” on the first results of the Valdai Discussion Club and VTsIOM joint project, “The Future Preparedness Index”.

Today’s world abounds in all sorts of ratings and indices measuring economic, institutional, democratic development and a lot more. All of them have one important limitation: development, understood as mere quantitative growth, in itself does not lead to quality transition from one state to another. The vision of the future implies technological breakthroughs, cultural and societal transformations, new systems of public administration and other areas, where changes within the range of 15–20 years can become decisive. The goal of the project is analyzing the readiness of different nations to respond to challenges of tomorrow, competitiveness across a number of economic and political benchmarks.

The discussion will focus on the methodology of the Index, as well as the first results of the research based on the two criteria: security and media. At present, mankind has reached the stage where communications are global by nature, mediating nearly all forms of life, sustaining activity, including the security area. The higher the level of communications, the stronger and more resilient a society will be in 15 years from now, the more efficient the state will be in countering potential aggression and averting the threats of any kind.
