Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar to Speak at Valdai Club During His First Visit to Moscow
Valdai Discussion Club Conference Hall (Bolshaya Tatarskaya 42, Moscow, Russia)

On August 27, at 16:30, the Valdai Discussion Club will have the honour to host the Minister of External Affairs of India, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar. He will deliver a speech on the topic: “Prospects for Indian Policy in the Indo-Pacific”.

The concept of Indo-Pacific is relatively new, though it has already managed to become a common reference in the international political discourse. Although various forces interpret it differently, it necessarily implies the leading role of India in this space.

The concept emerged due to the increased regional and global influence of Delhi and to the closer links between Indian and Pacific oceans. According to many experts, today, the junction of the two oceans is becoming a new arena of confrontation between the world’s great powers.

At the moment, India occupies an important place in the media due to its recent decision to reorganize the state of Jammu and Kashmir.

What is Indo-Pacific in Indian interpretation? How does it differ from Asia-Pacific, and what priorities does the country have there? How to maintain stability and enhance security in the region? What is India’s strategy for its closest neighbours, Pakistan and China? The participants of the expert discussion will address these and other issues.

Speaker:
  • Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, Minister of External Affairs of India
Moderator:

  • Fyodor Lukyanov, Research Director of the Valdai Discussion Club
