On April 4-5, 2017, the Valdai Discussion Club in cooperation with the Center for Russian Studies at the East China Normal University, held a joint Russian-Chinese conference, titled “China and Russia: Facing Challenges of Global Shifts”. About 50 Russian and Chinese scientists, experts, politicians and diplomats who deal with bilateral relations and global problems of international politics, took part in the event.

International relations and the global economic system have entered a period of qualitative change. The post-Cold-War epoch is over and a transitional period is under way, which is likely to affect the international situation. Recent political events can enhance demands for the quality of Chinese-Russian relations, especially because the range of issues of mutual interest has long gone beyond the ambit of Chinese-Russian relations and covers global and regional problems.

What opportunities the transformation of the political and economic world around us bring to Russia and China? What are the threats? What is the potential of the tripartite relations between China, Russia and the United States? How the Russian-Chinese economic cooperation could become more concrete? What conclusions can Russia and China draw from the dynamics of energy markets? How Russia and China can coordinate their policies toward the countries of "common neighborhood"? Finally, is it possible to overcome together the challenges of cyber security? These and other issues will be discussed at the Russian-Chinese conference.

Venue: April 4, DoubleTree by Hilton Moscow (Leningradskoe shosse, 39, str. 1, Moscow, Russia); April 5, Valdai Club Conference Hall (Bolshaya Tatarskaya, 42, Moscow, Russia);
