Associate researcher at Bremer Energie Institut, Germany Julia Kusznir completed a Magister in International Relations at the University of Warsaw (Poland) in 1999. She received her doctorate in 2007 from the University of Bremen. Her doctorate dealt with the development of the oil and gas sector in Russia and how it shapes regional and federal politics. She has held posts at the Research Centre for East European Studies, Bremen, and the Department of Comparative Political Studies at the University of Regensburg.

She was an external research fellow at NUPI in Norway. As a postdoctoral fellow at the Jacobs University and associate researcher at Bremer Energie Institut, her research interests include global energy security, energy efficiency and the development of renewable energy sources. She focuses on the development of energy markets in Central and Eastern Europe, Central Asia and the Caucasus and their on impact of national politics there.
