Research interests include politics in Russia and the former Soviet states; social identities including methodological issues and measurement; nationalism, regionalism and ethnic politics; identity-related variables in public health and demography; norms and institutional change, including bureaucracy; constructivist political economy; and political psychology. She teaches courses on comparative politics, identity, institutional change, post-socialist economic transitions, and politics of the states of the Former Soviet Union.

G8 Summit: Nothing Significant Achieved

G8 summits are hard to quantify in terms of their precise role in international politics. They can play this informal role of allowing leaders to interact a little informally in order to come to an agreement, to come to understand each other. Sometimes in the best case scenario, leaders would find some common interest, or something.

Jackson-Vanik Amendment Will Live On

Politics in the US right now is neither particularly rational nor strategic. Regardless of anything that happens in Russia, we should expect that unless the situation in the US Congress changes, Jackson-Vanik will live on.
