Sino-Russian Unison: Vision from India

Few eminent Indian political analysts consider that for India the emergence of Chinese-Russian military might is a new strategic experience. New Delhi seems to adjust and balance its policy with new reality and situation.

Both China and Russia during last Victory Day celebrations showed military strength of their Nations putting up a well-coordinated show with their latest armaments. For almost last three decades China is continuing its double digit economic growth making it as the second largest spender on defence after United States. China’s most of the defense procurement is from Russia and this cooperation is likely to grow in the coming years.

The present discourse among political and academic circles in India is such that through Victory day celebrations China and Russia have demonstrated their close ties and increasing cooperation. However, this could complicate United States efforts to counter both nations. Nowadays, China and Russia have come to an agreement that despite their differences over some national interests (as both countries are now facing common enemy with similar problems), they are ready to cooperate with each other. Moreover, they are also sending the clear message that both nations are ready to stand together to defend their interest against any outside pressure.

Few eminent Indian political analysts consider that for India the emergence of Chinese-Russian military might is a new strategic experience. New Delhi seems to adjust and balance its policy with new reality and situation. While India is trying to build up regional cooperation through multilateral organizations like SCO (Shanghai Cooperation Organisation), RIC (Russia-India-China), BRICS (Brazil-Russia-India-China-South Africa) at the same time, it is also trying to adjust with the new unfolding tensions between Russia-United States, China–United States and China-Japan and maintain its cordial relationship with these four big powers.
